Virginia Beach

This summer just flew by and we never made it to the beach- yikes!  Asher and Annalise thought "the beach" was Holisters- which has a large screen of the rolling beach waves....  We looked at our calendar and found a weekend that we could scoot to the beach for a day!  On Wednesday we decided to go, and Thursday Al looked, and he could score a FREE hotel room, overlooking the ocean!  Those who know us know we are not typically spontaneous, but this time we were!  He booked the room and we surprised the kids with this news- they were SO excited!!  Friday, as soon as we got home from school, we swapped our sneakers for flip-flops and headed to the beach!!  We are so thankful for a beach that is a close drive away!

It was dark when we arrived, but we still jumped in our suits and headed to the beach!  We enjoyed jumping in the wave for 30min and followed that by a dip in the hotel pool!  All 4 kids were tucked in their hotel beds and snoring away by 9pm!

This was Asher and Annalises' first experience with the beach and a hotel- and they both did great!  Asher is obsessed with water, and this was the first experience that he had that he wasn't crazy excited about!  When we walked into the beach, he wouldn't let go of my hand, and after he got his feet wet, he decided he needed to hold Daddy's hand- smart boy knows Daddy is far stronger than Mommy!

Saturday they all slept till 7am and then enjoyed the hotel breakfast- how much fun to have yogurt, waffles, Fruit Loops, eggs, toast, to choose from!  It was a little overcast and super windy so Al and I tried to keep the kids in the hotel for as long as possible- which was until 9am...  We hit the beach- and literally had it to ourselves!  The water was nice but it sure was chilly when you got out!  Al, Addie and Alden did a great job boogie-boarding, Annalise and I jumped a bunch of waves, and Asher wanted nothing to do with it!  He was happy building in the sand!

We played in the hotel pool again, showered and took a nice long walk along the beach collecting bits and pieces of shells.  Lunch was in the hotel room (love late check-outs!), and eventually we ended up allowing the kids to spend their allowance at a local store.

Alden picked a metal replica of the Blue Angles- they were flying in Virginia Beach that day!   As we walked out of the store, there were the Blue Angles pilots taking pictures with people!  We walked up to one and told him Alden had just bought one of their planes- and it turned out to be THE pilot of the plane Alden had just bought- #5!!  He was such a nice and gracious man, and he posed for a quick photo before he had to jump into his car and zip off for the air show!!  It was an amazing experience- one I am sure Alden will never forget! What are the chances that we could not only meet a pilot, but THE pilot of the plane he just bought?!?

We did head out to see the airshow- but from a parking lot nearby.  We did see several big airplanes fly over, but when it was time for the Blue Angles, a small storm was brewing and we never saw them fly.  That was disappointing, but at least we actually MET a pilot!!

The kids did great and had a great time!  I am so thankful for a husband willing to plan a spur of the moment trip- he had to leave at 4am Sunday for a week-long business trip to CA.  We were able to create happy family memories!

First Day of School 2014!

The First Day of School- yay!!!!  Everyone was SO excited!!

Flying Squirrels

One of the final items on the kids Summer Bucket List was to attend a Flying Squirrels game- the minor league baseball team in Richmond.  Some good friends came with us and I think a good time was had by all!  Popcorn was eaten, cotton candy was eaten, lots of water was consumed, and some baseball was watched!  The best part- at the end, there were fireworks- which Asher has been asking to see since July 5th!
Ready for the game to start!

Showing off her lost tooth by putting gum in the spot...

Such cuties!

Cotton Candy...  Thanks for the Squirrels $$ Miss Jennifer!!

It was everywhere- I'm so sad I didn't snap a picture first...

Matching hats- love these 2!

Fireworks from the car- they all loved it- what a perfect way to end the summer!

Beginning of the 2014 School Year!

A few days before school starts, the kids can meet their teachers, drop off supplies, see who is in their class- and the parents can work on the zillion forms that need to be done!

It is a big year in our house- Annalise is starting kindergarten, Alden is in 2nd grade and Adeline is in 3rd!  Asher, despite not going to Big School, is thrilled to have Miss Monica- this means that Miss Monica will have taught all 4 Perreca children and we couldn't be happier about that!!
She was SO excited and even a little nervous, but she did everything that she was asked, followed directions and totally rocked her first experience!!

Annalise has Mrs. Garcia- she seems so super sweet yet strict which is the perfect combo for Annalise!

Alden has Mrs. Blevins for 2nd grade- and we are SO happy!!  Adeline had Mrs. Blevins last year and we think that Mrs. Blevins is just an incredible teacher!  I was able to sneak in a lunch date with Alden before his orientation....

Addie has Miss Brinkley for 3rd grade!  Miss Brinkley just graduated and we are so excited to have a new teacher, full of enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and has plenty of energy!

And burried in the zillion forms was a picture of Annalise!!  In one of the publications about our County, Annalises picture  from the Scorpion 5K is featured!!  Mrs. Blevins took the picture and we are so excited that Annalise was chosen to represent her new school!!
The kids are SO excited- the year is already off to a fantastic start and it hasn't officially started yet!!

End of 2014 Summer

We have been busy soaking up the last of summer.  It's been a fantastic summer and it just flew by!  It's amazing at how much each kid has grown- both physically, emotionally, as well as in home-helping skills!  I could go on and on- but instead, here are some pictures!
Adeline learned how to sew- she made "pockets" for lots of people by hand, and then learned how to use my sewing machine!  Watch-out world- here comes the newest designer!  She helped sew new curtains for Mommy and Daddy's room!

Lots of snacks were eaten at the pool- popcorn was discovered to be an affordable treat from the snack bar!  Affordable meaning they could get it with a week's allowance and NOT have to share with others....

These two LOVE each other- most of the time....  Seriously, Adeline is, hands-down, the MOST amazing big sister- she knows just what to say/do to help any of her siblings!

Asher discovered tools- and he loves "fixing" things!  He also went a small nap-strike- thus laying on the floor....

Annalise's obsession with Hello Kitty is out of control!  She found a remnant of Hello Kitty fleece at a local craft store and begged Adeline to make her something- Addie made her a hat, scarf and a small blanket!  She has sweet pouring off her, and she wouldn't take the hat and scarf off at the pool....

Lots of Dates happened- this is just one time I was out with just Adeline- she shared her Sweet Frog gift card with her Mommy!  Heart of gold this child has!

We tried to, on many nights, read as a family.  The Jesus Storybook Bible and Ella Enchanted were 2 of the favorites!

During Teacher Work Week all 4 went back to Goddard- and they LOVED it!  Here they are enjoying brownie sundaes after The End of Summer Performance!

Annalise lost her first tooth!!  She was SO excited- and even more excited to buy her beloved Hello Kitty ice cream at the pool snack bar with her money from said Tooth Fairy!

All 4 kids came and helped me set-up my classroom for year 14 of teaching.

We met Parker- and we love him!  He was not only an amazing lifeguard, but he also is a fantastic babysitter! He knows exactly how to handle tantrums, fights, and high-energy levels!

Alden's Official 7th Birthday

Sunday, August 10th, at 8:15am, Alden officially turned 7!  The morning started with some gifts and the traditional Dunkin Donuts breakfast followed with NY bagels that MarMar and PopPop brought!

Lunch was at McDonalds, his choice!  Yum!

While the Little Kids napped, MarMar and PopPop treated him, as well as Mommy and Adeline, to Sweet Frog!

After ice cream, time was spent at the pool where he showed off his water skills!

Dinner was French Toast- his favorite!
It was a special day celebrating our favorite Alden!
