It chokes me up to post this- but my silver Pilot is no longer ours. This car has meant so much to me over the years- it's hard to believe she's gone.... She has a great love story- if you don't care, you don't have to read- just look at the new pretty picture at the end! It is rather amazing that I can write so much about a car....
Back in 2003, in the middle of infertility woes, we needed a new car. I had tried out the Pilot and LOVED it, but since it was so new, there were very few used ones- and once a dealership got one, it was snapped up. I had to drive past a Honda dealership every day going to and from work. I noticed one day this silver Pilot sitting on the lot- and I kept seeing it sitting there. After seeing it for 6 weeks, Al and I figured there must be something really wrong with it, but we decided it would be worth checking out. Once the dealership realized that this car had, indeed, been sitting there for 6 weeks, they made a very sweet deal with us (thanks to Al's amazing negotiating skills, too). There had been some sort of issue with paperwork that had allowed this Pilot to just sit on the lot. I knew that God had saved it for me- and I took heart that He had given it to me as part of a promise He would give me babies to carry around in it.
2 weeks after we got the Pilot, I had wrist surgery which was supposed to have a recovery time of 6months. Up to this, we had only owned manual cars, so the fact that I now had an automatic meant that I could still drive myself to and from work! Later I would have my appendix out- and since the Pilot had running boards and was automatic, I was able to go back to work sooner.
And the best part- God gave me not just 1 baby but 2 to bring home from the hospital in that Pilot. 1 year and 1 day after we got the Pilot, Al was driving me to the hospital to have Addie. We took them to their first day of school in the Pilot. We took them all over the country in this Pilot. Many, many happy memories were made in that Pilot.... God is good.
Sadly, a few weeks ago, we found out that $3,000 worth of repairs were going to be needed soon- and on top of that most of the door locks didn't' work, the windshield wipers only worked on high, the interior lights would often just stay on unless the driver locked the door (and this caused the lights to go off), and the engine was making a very strange noise.... It was time to trade her in....
She's been a good car and I will miss her.
