The End of an Era

It chokes me up to post this- but my silver Pilot is no longer ours. This car has meant so much to me over the years- it's hard to believe she's gone.... She has a great love story- if you don't care, you don't have to read- just look at the new pretty picture at the end! It is rather amazing that I can write so much about a car....

Back in 2003, in the middle of infertility woes, we needed a new car. I had tried out the Pilot and LOVED it, but since it was so new, there were very few used ones- and once a dealership got one, it was snapped up. I had to drive past a Honda dealership every day going to and from work. I noticed one day this silver Pilot sitting on the lot- and I kept seeing it sitting there. After seeing it for 6 weeks, Al and I figured there must be something really wrong with it, but we decided it would be worth checking out. Once the dealership realized that this car had, indeed, been sitting there for 6 weeks, they made a very sweet deal with us (thanks to Al's amazing negotiating skills, too). There had been some sort of issue with paperwork that had allowed this Pilot to just sit on the lot. I knew that God had saved it for me- and I took heart that He had given it to me as part of a promise He would give me babies to carry around in it.

2 weeks after we got the Pilot, I had wrist surgery which was supposed to have a recovery time of 6months. Up to this, we had only owned manual cars, so the fact that I now had an automatic meant that I could still drive myself to and from work! Later I would have my appendix out- and since the Pilot had running boards and was automatic, I was able to go back to work sooner.

And the best part- God gave me not just 1 baby but 2 to bring home from the hospital in that Pilot. 1 year and 1 day after we got the Pilot, Al was driving me to the hospital to have Addie. We took them to their first day of school in the Pilot. We took them all over the country in this Pilot. Many, many happy memories were made in that Pilot.... God is good.

Sadly, a few weeks ago, we found out that $3,000 worth of repairs were going to be needed soon- and on top of that most of the door locks didn't' work, the windshield wipers only worked on high, the interior lights would often just stay on unless the driver locked the door (and this caused the lights to go off), and the engine was making a very strange noise.... It was time to trade her in....

She's been a good car and I will miss her.

I do love Fransico Rinaldi (from Cars2 as the kids are insisting on calling this new Pilot). I look forward to the new memories we will make in him and I do LOVE how everything works!!

Gymnastics!!

Addie started gymnastics this fall- exciting!! She's totally built for it, she loves to tumble, and her good friend was going to take them with her- it's a win-win situation! It's right after school, so it makes for a long Monday, but it's well worth it.

Checking in with the teacher and catching up with how Savannah's day at school went.

Warming-up. This is 5 classes worth of little girls- with a token boy tossed in here and there...

Practicing at the station near the bleachers. She can do a wicked-fast front roll and is starting to get cartwheels....

And there she goes....

She loves it- we are so excited to see if she chooses this next year over dance....

A Week in Review

We had lots of fun this week.....

In an effort to really get into the School Spirit, I pulled out all the fall decorations! I did find this super cute turkey at a local craft store and I thought it would be fun for the kids to paint. This was hard for me, a type-A Mom, but they loved it and did a great job I think! It will be treasured for years to come!!

Finished product- they worked SO well together!!

This is totally random- but Addie and Alden were building with Legos and Addie thought the bucket made a great hat...

Addie went to her first ever sleep-over- and you can see that she is about to explode she is SO excited? One of her good friends from preschool is going to kindergarten at a different school, so they don't get to see each other any more- so when she sent out invitations for a sleep-over, Addie was over-the-moon excited! I was pretty confident in her STAYING at the sleep-over since she's been to Florida with her grandparents for 10 days and never once missed us.... And I was right- she had a ball! What a big milestone.... Next thing I know, she'll be asking for car keys....

End of Summer Bash- just a little late...

Oops! I synched my phone this evening and realized I had pictures on there from our Labor Day Weekend! So, withouth further ado and only a month late- I present you with Our Fun Weekend!

Swimming!! The water was actually rather chilly thanks to all the rain we had had. These 2 were being super silly on Sunday- goggles and noodles- they went up and down the pool so many times I lost count- that night, they sure slept soundly!

Silly girl! I tried to get a picture of Alden, but he wasn't in the picture taking mood....

We ate Little Ceaser's pizza at the pool for dinner- the kids' favorite part of summer they tell me.

And the best part- we let them get ice cream from the Snack Bar! It's so pricey that I only let them have it occasionally- and they were thrilled!!

Yum!

Monday we headed to Williamsburg to get some deals at the Outlets and then grabbed lunch at our favorite place The Cheese Shop- yum!

It was a very low-key weekend and we loved it!!

Fun in the Fountains with Friends!!

A favorite with the kids are the Fountains at a nearby out-door-mall. Since we have had a pool membership, I haven't taken them, but since the pool is closed- we decided to go splash in the fountains!! As an added bonus - a good friend met us there!!

Thumbs up for the fountains!

And they're off!! Yes, they had the fountains to themselves for a good bit! The weather was beautiful, and since it had rained all week, I fully expected it to be packed, but it never got that way- yay!!

Running to fill his cup and give his rubber ducky a pool to swim in...

Running with her duck...

I love his reach...

Addie and her sweet friend, SG!! These 2 love each other!!

We had a great time- and the kids were worn out- added bonus!!

The First Official Day of School

Tuesday dawned (or least the clock said that the sun was up) to clouds POURING rain- so we took all our pictures inside!

Addie wanting to pose with Kierke...

My big kindergartner!! She was SO excited she couldn't eat breakfast!!

Thumbs up for kindergarten!!

Alden did not want to be left out- he loves giving me this I'm-Just-Smiling-For-Mom smile...

Still, he can just melt my heart....

Thank goodness for a self-timer! Me and my 2 loves- too bad Al leaves the house so early (before 6am) so he is only with us in spirit!

After dropping Alden off, the rain slowed down enough I felt safe pulling out the camera and had Addie stand next to the Goddard School Bus. The funny thing- she doesn't RIDE the Goddard bus- she rides a regular school bus!!

Here she is with some of her friends in the Before-Care room.

There are some pictures of her getting on the bus that a friend took, but I don't have them yet! When I picked her up after school- I get to pick her up from her school- she was beaming. She had the best day EVER!!

The Zoo- Kinda

This post is totally out of sequence- but the day before the hurricane, some friends came over while their Mom worked. I adore these kids- they love my kids, play games with them, teach them any number of cool things, and are just amazing in and out! After naps, we went to Sonic (a first for them) and then Connor suggested we go to PetSmart and look at all the animals. It was a great idea- and everyone had a blast!

Checking out tropical fish while slurping down yummy drinks

Elena teaching Addie about Beta fish

Alden loved all the colorful fish

Saying hello to the $600 parrot

Looking at the Bearded Dragon

What a simple thing and what fun!!

Addie's Kindergarten Open House

This might seem a little overboard, all the pictures I took, but I will not be able to be there the first day, so this is my only chance!!

Outside her school- she is SUPER excited!

The actual building!

The front of the cafeteria was lined with mats in groups of 2, with the teacher's name. We were excited that hers was right by the door!

Waiting with Lainey, her BFF! Thumbs up for kindergarten!!

More kids on the mat- 4 other kids from Addie's preschool are in her class! Just seeing the pure joy on her face when her first friend, Reggie (whose Mom is also a middle school teacher) walked up to her- it warmed my heart! She greeted each friend with a HUGE bear hug- it was so sweet!

Grinning with one of her friends while the parents do paper work...

Checking out the Home Center. She is a bit concerned, only 1 doll was out to be played with. Her solution? Give her teacher a few from home!! I love her tender and giving heart!

Each class has a mascot/symbol- Addie's is a butterfly! Her name is the yellow butterfly to the left of the birdhouse!

Drumroll- Addie and her new teacher, Mrs. LaLiberte!! We have heard nothing but good things about her (her daughter-in-law teaches with me, and several of my friends' kids have had her- they all rave about how wonderful she is!!). Another great thing- I can actually see Addie's room from my room! Anytime she goes outside, she can look at my building and see my window- which I have put a HUGE, pink heart in- so she can look and know that I am there, that I love her and am SO proud of her!

This is such a big step- we couldn't be happier or more excited!!
